Bloodgood

This is one of the most popular large leaved upright growing tree forms. It is best known for it's deep red-purple color that holds up well into late summer. Matures up to 30' height with similar canopy width. "Bloodgood" is a very robust grower and a beautifully striking landscape centerpiece.

Osakazuki

This uniquely beautiful and very famous green cultivar is best known for its brilliant "fire red" fall colors. Sometimes referred to as "the burning bush" this hardy tree matures around 20', with a nice round-topped shape.

Butterfly

These spectacular and dainty trees are well known for their bushiness and tighly bunched small green variegated leaves. Each individual leaf has it's own uniquely patterned white border "stirpe" surrounding the green centers. Rarely are any two leaves alike. "Butterfly" is one of the most reliable and sought after of the variegated Japanese Maple cultivars. matures at less than 20' tall.

Shishigashira

Also called the "lion's head" or "lion's mane" after the mythical lion of Japanese drama. It is a very unique and unusual specimen. It is mainly known for it's extremely tightly bunched 'crinkled' green leaf pattern.

Tamuke yama

This cultivar is known for many interesting traits, such as, doing very well in the heat and humidity, having a very deep red-purple colored large leaf, and getting rather large in stature. This beautiful red-purple mound-shaped tree makes a great addition to any yard or office. Listed as early as 1710, this dissectum has reached over 12' tall with incredible width.

Rosco Red

Also called "Novum," this tree is known for it's drastic color changing. The medium-large leaves start as a brilliant light purple-red and change in the summer to a more orange-red, then in the fall to a more green-red. Also known for it's translucent "color-changing appearance" as it blows in the winds. Sriking centerpiece. This strong, upright grower can reach over 20' tall.

Ever Red

Known as "Dissectum Nigrum," the name of this beautiful tree was changed to Ever Red when it was imported into the U.S. in 1965. It can hold it's true color well into the summer and remains a true landscape favorite. Interestingly the new growth of this tree has silver hairs covering the small leaves as they emerge. This lace leaf tree has been known to reach 12-15' in height and width at full maturity.

Moonfire

This tree is a fast grower when young, but tends to slow downand boraden as it gets older. The deep purple/red color lasts well into the late summer and does not bronze in the sun. Beautiful crimson fall colors. Mature trees can reach 20' tall.

Inaba Shidare

This tree is well known for it's deep purple large dissected leaves. Although it is a cascading tree form, it generally has a more upright growing pattern than most dissectums. This leads to a larger, sturdy , more erect tree form. Can burn leaf tips in full sun, but still holds color well. Partial shade preferred. This tree can have a more upright growing pattern for the cascading variety, reaching over 10' tall.

Viridis

This beautiful green leaved tree cascades to form a very pleasing mound-shaped sppearance. Holds up well in full sun, however the leaves can burn in extreme conditions. Leaves turn yellow-gold with occasional splashes of red. Very old trees can reach over 10' tall and 15' wide.

Waterfall

This strong and sturdy green "weeper' is known to have the typical dissected leaf pattern of this group, however the leaves are normally larger and longer than most dissectums, which leads to a more cascading appearance as the tree matures. The fall colors of the tree change to a very nice gold with crimson blend. The original specimen at the Willowwood Arboretum, Gladstone, NJ, measures 9' tall and 4' wide.

Boskoop Glory

This vigorous growing, dependable upright is fairly similar in appearance to the 'Bloodgood.' However, the leaves are more of a red color than the traditional purple. Matures slightly smaller as well, around 25' tall. Can handle full sun very well.

Oshio Beni

A sister tree to the "Bloodgood," same shape of tree, leaf, and growing form with a main difference....the leaf color is a very nice orange red. It is a gorgeous red tree, however it will not perform as well as some others in full sun. Mature specimens can reach 18-25' tall.

Seiryu

This unusual tree is unique in that it has the standard dissected leaf shape, however the tree itself grows in an upright manner. The beautiful green leaves are a bit more dainty than most other trees with sticking reddish tones appearing on the tips as the seasons progress into fall. A strong companion tree for any landscape design. Mature specimens can hover around 20' tall.

Sango Kaku

Also known as "Coral Bark," because of its brilliantly reddish-pink colored bark, this green leaved specimen displays stunning characteristics. The younger wood and newer growth can be an almost fluorescent pink, with this bright red/pink color staying and increasing richness through the winter. The green leaves have reddish edges and will change to a yellow-gold color in fall. Stays rather compact and bushy with mature height of around 20'.

Ukigumo

With a name that means "Floating Clouds," this pastel light green colored leaf can have it's own unique style of variegation. Most of the leaves contain some degree of white or pink spots and may have slightly faded pink edges. Oftentimes the leaves of this interesitng tree can have an almost odd curling or twisted appearance and is considered to grow as a tall shrub approaching 10' at maturity.

Crimson Queen

This strong-growing cascading tree is very popular with modern yards and lancscape designs. This is not only due to it's brilliant spring coloring, but it is also known for carrying it's color well into the summer months. As with most maples, it prefers afternoon protection from the sun, however it is one of the trees recognized for doing better than most others in full sun. Mature trees can grow over 10' tall and 15' wide.

Shojo

"Shojo" is the name of the red-faced orangutan character in many Japanese dramas. This tree has the similar deep red-purple color of the "Bloodgood" Japanese Maple, but with a slightly larger and deeper cut leaf. It matures at least 15' high with very strong lateral branching. A truly vigorous grower.

Emperor 1

These trees are very versatile. Sun or shade. They are similar in appearance to the 'Bloodgood' with it's deep red/purple coloring and leaf shape and also with it's very good color retention. The leaves are somewhat translucent and can 'glow' in the sunlight. Like the bloodgood, this larger growing upright can reach 20-30' tall.

Garnet

This red "weeper" is known for it's large dissected leaf shape, color, and vigorous growth. The tree is named for it's rich red orange color resembling that of the gemstone garnet. Well fertilized trees are known to have tremedous seasonal growth, maturing into luscious, cascading, mound-shaped specimens. Mature specimens have been known to grow over 12' tall and 15' wide.

Sumi Nagashi

An excellent tree for any landscape, this large-leaved cultivar starts spring with a gorgeous bright purple red that changes throughout the year to a more greenish red. A unique feature of this tree is that as the leaves turn more greenish you begin to notice that the hanging seed pods are staying a brilliant magenta color that creates a striking contrast. Bright red seeds hanging amongst green tones. This excellent landscaping tree can reach almost 20' tall.
